Ämne: [EDRi-members] Invitation: Participatory Requirements Workshop for eIDAS Oversight PlatformDear friends,I’m reaching out to you about a project that Epicenter.works has started and that will continue for the next three years in which we would like to include your input early on. As you might now, the EU has adopted a law to establish the European Digital Identity Wallet. This general-purpose infrastructure will contain a lot of sensitive personal information and make it accessible to the private and public sector. We aim to create oversight for this system.Hence, we are developing the eIDAS Monitor which will create a Birds Eye view about the whole ecosystem. It will include all government agencies and private companies that want to request information via the Wallet, which exact information and for which purpose. We want to offer an early warning system for individuals and NGOs so that they can be notified in real time about potential privacy violations, discrimination, abuse or fraud.Since the underlying eIDAS regulation requires registration before any information can be requested and the information about these registrations being available via an API, we can issue real time notifications that hopefully make the job of public watchdogs easier. Instead of users being confronted with over-reaching information requests, the NGOs and academics working in their respective fields can react early on.For example, migrant rights organisations can be notified when Frontex starts using the system. Consumer organisations can be notified when the insurance industry starts requesting health information. Digital rights NGOs can be notified when Big Tech starts using the system. Our goal with these three workshops is to briefly explain our plan (20min) and leave enough time for discussion and your use cases (40min). We are following a participatory requirements concept. Our system will be open source and open data. Please join one of these workshops:
- Friday, 13. June 2025, 13:00 until 14:00 CEST
- Monday, 16. June 2025, 15:00 until 16:00 CEST
- Wednesday, 2. July 2025, 11:00 until 12:00 CEST
Registration: team@epicenter.worksShould you wish to learn more about the project, you can read the concept note. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to colleagues that might be interested to participate and help us make this a useful tool for your work.Kind regards,Thomas Lohninger
