Today, 13 November 2013, WikiLeaks released the secret negotiated draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter. The TPP is the largest-ever economic treaty, encompassing nations representing more than 40 per cent of the world’s GDP. The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Negotiations

The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), in collaboration with the US Embassy in Stockholm and the National Board of Trade, invite you to a seminar on the new US-EU trade and investment partnership agreement currently being negotiated. How are the negotiations proceeding, what are the big challenges - and what is this new partnership really about?
In the coming weeks, the United States and the European Union will hold the second round of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations. The overall ambition of these negotiations is to reduce most of the trade barriers across the Atlantic, open services, spur innovation, and align and lift regulatory standards. If the partnership becomes a reality it could have great impact on the United States as well as the European Union’s economies. At the same time, there are many challenges ahead and there are also those who are concerned about the consequences for trade globally of such an agreement.
The seminar will look at what this partnership would mean and why it is important for the EU and the US. How does the EU negotiate and what is the room for manoeuvre for the US delegation? What are the most difficult topics? Has the government shutdown in the US impacted on the process?

Secret Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)
Today, 13 November 2013, WikiLeaks released the secret negotiated draft text for the entire TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) Intellectual Property Rights Chapter. The TPP is the largest-ever economic treaty, encompassing nations representing more than 40 per cent of the world’s GDP. Eller så kan de lika gärna gå längre bort, så de tappar ännu mer relevans med verkligheten? Gärna på en annan planet, där det hör hemma. Det bästa som kan ske för oss är att så mycket som möjligt läcker ut, så att startsidorna i ett antal miljarder användares webbrowsers har iaf en teoretisk möjlighet att, likt under SOPA/PIPA i USA, uppmana befolkningen att göra sig hörda till de som tror de beslutar för allas väl (under påverkan av 600+ lobbyister från rättighetsinnehavare, med mera). Så läcka dokument är det absolut bästa som kan ske. För när nya ekonomins företag, Google, Facebook mfl, och telcos, får se att man tror sig kunna göra carriers kriminellt ansvariga för den trafik som skickas på deras nätverk, utan att det får konsekvenser, så har man inte förstått vad för makt dessa bolag har. Oj, är du helt säker på att du svarade "rätt" person? Kan inte läsa mig till att ngn av påståendena nedan är några som jag sagt mig tro på eller talat för de senaste timmarna men jag tror på det ÖPPNA samtalet... Det verkar som om "besluten" som fattas behöver närma sig de som "besluten" gäller. De som besluten gäller avser majoriteten eller förut kallar folket.
